Simple habits that keep buying and selling on LokuPodi safe.

Meet safely

  • Meet in a busy public place during the day, such as a bank, a supermarket or a police station car park.
  • Bring a friend or family member for expensive items.
  • Tell someone where you are going and who you are meeting.

Pay safely

  • Never pay an advance, deposit or “courier fee” before you have seen the item.
  • Pay only after you have checked the item works and matches the ad.
  • Be careful with bank transfers to people you have not met. A transfer cannot be taken back.
  • Never share OTP codes, PINs or card details. LokuPodi will never ask for them.

Check before you buy

  • Phones: check the IMEI (dial *#06#), that it is not locked to an iCloud or Google account, and the battery health.
  • Vehicles: check the registration book (CR) matches the seller's ID and the chassis and engine numbers. Get a mechanic to inspect it.
  • A price that is far below the market is a warning sign.

Report problems

If an ad looks like a scam, use the Report button on the ad. Our team reviews every report. If you have lost money, contact your bank and the police right away.

Applying for jobs safely

Every job on LokuPodi is checked by our team before it goes live, but scammers keep changing their tricks. These habits protect you:

  • Never pay to apply. A genuine employer does not ask for a registration, training, uniform, visa or “processing” fee, a deposit or a refundable payment.
  • Never send your NIC, passport, bank card or account details, or any OTP or PIN before a real interview with the company.
  • Check the company: look at its LokuPodi company page and website, and call its published number. Go to interviews only at a business address, in daytime, and tell someone where you are going.
  • Be careful with pay that is far above normal, “earn from home” schemes that need an investment, and jobs that ask you to recruit other people.
  • Overseas jobs must go through an agency licensed by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). Check the agency's licence number at slbfe.lk and register with the SLBFE before you travel.
  • If a job looks wrong, stop and report it. If you have already paid or shared bank details, contact your bank and the police right away.
